A little about me

My name is Dabrowka or Dom for short.
I am an Ofsted registered childminder providing home based childcare in York (Acomb / Holgate).

I seek to provide a supportive, yet stimulating environment for your child,  so that they may play, grow and develop with confidence in a small family environment.

Experience of working with children

I have many years experience of working with children and encouraging them to learn and develop through play as a Nanny, Nursery worker and Childminder in the UK and before this as a qualified pre-school teacher (for children aged upto 8) in Poland.  I have a Masters degree in Pedagogy (the art of teaching) from Lublin University (Poland) specifically for pre-school children.

I have two boys, one 3 years old and one approaching 6.  The children I currently care for range from 1 to 9 years.

I have been childminding since August 2008 and  had my first Ofsted inspection in February 2010 (and was rated Good) you can view the inspection report here.

Please contact me now, if you are interested in reserving a place from September 2012. (1 months payment in advance will be required to secure a place)

Although the numbers of children I am registered to care for is governed by my sole registration, my husband who also works from home, is also registered as my assistant.  This means that during those busy times I can call on him for support.  He also occasionally takes a days holiday to help me take the children on special outings.

If you are looking for home-based childcare with a childminder in or around South West York and struggling to find a place for your child, give me a call.  Even when I  have no vacancies, I may know of local childminders who can help.  For more information see the Woodthorpe Childminders section below.

We live on Hamilton Drive West. Just south from Acomb shops and West of Holgate.  We are ideally placed for before and after school and nursery care at Our Lady's Queen of Martyrs Primary School.  In fact we moved here in April 2012 from Woodthorpe ijust to be closer to the school!

Our new house is 3 minutes walk from the playground at West Bank Park! We also have an allotment down the road where we occasionally take the children.

Coming by bus, either the number 4 or 16 pass our road.

Nursery / nurseries vs home based childcare

Most parents know whether they prefer to have their child looked after in a nursery or home environment and different children thrive in different environments.
However for those who have not considered home-based childcare the following points may be helpful.
  • Both Registered Childminders and Nurseries are inspected and regulated by Ofsted.  The frame work governing pre-school care is called the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
  • Both Nurseries and Registered Childminders need to carry the same insurance and have undertaken the same First Aid training.
  • Both Nurseries and Registered Childminders need to give consideration to planning cover for illness and holidays.
  • Registered Childminders provide care in a home-based environment, nurseries do not.

If you have any queries about further differences or similarities between nurseries and registered child minders, please contact me.
